ABOUT:
Expanding on the last CoDE ECR Network Event in February 'Building Solidarity', this event will begin with a short somatics session led by ECR network member Macole Lannaman followed by an all levels vinyasa yoga class delivered by Mark Aitken, a local yoga teacher. Then there will then be a working lunch with the aim of building community, sharing knowledge and fostering collaboration
In Western societies, and Western academia particularly, the mind and body tend to be treated as separate. This session encourages us to reconnect mind, body and breath. For those involved in anti-racist work and/or community organising and activism, when we take care of ourselves and our bodies, we are better able to show up for our communities and ‘do the work’. With this in mind, and acknowledging the toll that working on race and racism can take (especially for racially minoritised folks), this event aims to provide a space for care and wellbeing for ECRs working around race and racism.
We will also have a ‘working lunch’; this will be an opportunity to share experiences and insights and create connections.
What to bring/wear:
The room is equipped with mats so need to bring one with you, but feel free to bring your own if you prefer. Bring a bottle of water, there are various points on campus where you can refill. Wear something comfortable that you can move in.
Catering
A plant-based lunch will be provided. If you have other dietary requirements, please let us know when you register. (We might not be able to accommodate these after we finalise the catering order - this is usually 10 working days before the event.)
