Ahmed Iqbal Ullah Race Relations Resource Centre

Though funding has increased for BAME heritage projects, their visibility in the UK's museums and archives has not. This free event will explore the value of preserving memories for future generations and help you to develop some of the basic skills required. We hope you will leave this event feeling empowered to play your part.

Morning
The morning session is open to both BAME communities and heritage professionals and features two compelling speakers:

<LI CLASS="MsoNormal">Hakim Adi, professor of the History of Africa and the African Diaspora, University of Chichester</LI>
</UL>
<UL>
<LI CLASS="MsoNormal">Abira Hussein, researcher and graduate of the National Archives trainee programme: Healing Through Archives, a Somali digital archive looking at inequality, representation and wellbeing of migrant communities using  technology</LI>
</UL>
 
Afternoon
The afternoon session is reserved for those involved with BAME-focused community projects. Practical workshops include:
An introduction to managing paper records An introduction to managing digital images An introduction to managing sound
Lunch will be provided if you attend the full day event. We may also be able to reimburse travel costs for those who would otherwise be unable to attend.
Please note: if you are attending for the full day, you do not need to book for the morning session separately.
