Members of SOUND/IMAGE present an eclectic line up of spatial compositions, noise &amp; audiovisual works as part of a national tour.

On Wednesday 24th May 2023 Leeds School of Arts presents an exciting performance from SOUND/IMAGE. The programme includes a selection of works by artists Andrew Knight-Hill, Brona Martin, Dushume, Emma Margetson, Jim Hobbs and Richard Whitby, including: •	Avartan by Dushume – A low frequency work exploring how noise and sound induced music should be felt as vibration, rather than heard with the cochlear. •	For Want of (not) Measuring: Hxy/Vz =ø by Jim Hobbs – A series of loosely linked moving images and graphics which in turn create a type of hallucinatory experience. •	Frogland by Brona Martin - A exotic soundscape of pulsing rhythmic and static musical patterns exploring night-time field recordings from Florida and Brisbane. SOUND/IMAGE bio: The SOUND/IMAGE Research Centre investigates the disruptive potential of sound and new media technologies to counter established ocularcentric perspectival bias’. We bring together an interdisciplinary team of musicians and sound designers, film makers, scientists, architects, artists and philosophers to critically reflect upon the relationships between the auditory and the visual, in ways that deliver insight to effect real world change. Using practice as a tool of critical enquiry, we are engaged in a wide range of international projects with high-profile collaborative partners. The activities of the Centre are structured around the following key research themes: • Sonic Phenomenologies • Heritage and Place • Spatial Aesthetics and Immersive Environments • Expanded Cinemas • Communities &amp; Cultural Access Our vision is to enrich lives locally, nationally and internationally. Through our outputs we: • Develop new and inclusive experiences, forms of expression, and ways of bringing people together with new technologies to better understand and connect with one another and the environment. • Create innovative training resources for research and work in emerging and growing areas of music, immersive media, and digital heritage, addressing the gap in this area and increasing skills in the workforce by providing cutting-edge, accessible, evidence-based guidance for professional practice. • Provide robust critical reflection upon new immersive and virtual technologies via an arts and humanities frame, generating world-leading insight and reducing barriers for access. • Explore the liminal spaces of liveness/pre-recorded media, real/virtual spaces and the potential of new immersive technologies, applying practice research methods from triangulated perspectives to explore emergent potentials.
