Soundings Beneath Southwark

Saturday May 4 from 2pm-3.45pm

Meet at Dilston Grove in Southwark Park to join us for a short walk from Southwark Park Dilston Grove Gallery toward Stave Hill Ecology Park detouring to Rotherhithe Village with InspiralLondon associate artists Gail Dickerson, Keith Turpin, Isa Suarez and Charlie Fox – a unique perspective on what lies beneath our feet – exploring geology, tunnelling, waste, soil and grounding underground sounds. Sharing the artist research and expertise, you will discover a wealth of knowledge and enrich your imagination by experiencing what lies beneath your feet - all the urban infrastructure, tunnels, engineering that crisscrosses this floating peninsula - super sewers, geological sampling, soils, Brunel's experiments, the infrastructure around the docks. Exploring together, in a fun way, the sounds and resonances that lie beneath us, as we walk the surface of the streets and greenways.

We will then walk onto Stave Hill Ecology Park to join Reveil 11 – soundcamp’s annual live audio feed and deep listening event – from streamers around the world at daybreak for 24 hours of soundings from the environment. see HERE

There will be refreshments along the way but also tea and cake at Stave Hill.

Organized by

InspiralLondon - an ambitious artist-led project, working collectively,  to create a new walk trail spiraling out through London, from Kings Cross to Gravesend. The 300-mile pathway is divided into 36 easily accessible walk segments, allowing the public to experience the city as one vast art space in which to re-imagine the built and natural environment.

Expanding on the potential of walking as art, we use a variety of artistic practices and artistic interventions to offer an alternative platform that provides accessible and pleasurable ways to delve into under-explored and forgotten parts of the metropole, including its watery commons.

You can view the trail on our website and use the online maps to walk the trail.https://inspirallondon.com/
