Spatial Practices Autumn Lecture Series

Spatial Practices, Central Saint MartinsOur four courses,BA Architecture (RIBA Part Ⅰ),MA Narrative Environments,MA Architecture: Cities and Innovation, and M ARCHArchitecture, provide a route from foundation, through undergraduate and postgraduate study to doctoral research and professional practice. Each course has its own character, exploring, in its unique way, the human environment as a living network of people, buildings, spaces, objects and stories, all of which affect one another.

This autumn, the Spatial Practices Programme will respond to Head of College Jeremy Till’s Creative Unions ‘Call to Action’ and demonstrate how creativity must continue to know no boundaries in order to play a role in the current political landscape.

12 October  Markus Bader - <A HREF="http://raumlabor.net/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Raumlabor</A>
Markus Bader is Co-founder of the group raumlabor_berlin, a work and action collective for architecture, art, intervention and urbanism. They love the great ideas of the 60s 70s and the optimism which is inherent in changing the world at the stroke of a pen to the better -  but also strongly believe that complexity is real and good and our society today does need a more substantial approach. 
19 October  John Palmesino & Ann-So Rönnskog -<A HREF="https://www.territorialagency.com/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Territorial Agency</A>
Territorial Agency is an independent organisation established by John Palmesino and Ann-Sofi Rönnskog that innovatively promotes and works for sustainable territorial transformations. Recent projects include the Anthropocene Observatory with film maker and photographer Armin Linke and curator Anselm Franke, the Museum of Oil in collaboration with Greenpeace, North, Unfinishable Markermeer, the Coast of Europe
26 October Christoph Schäfer -<A HREF="http://christophschaefer.net/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer"> Fabric / PlanBude / Park Fiction</A>
Christoph Schäfer (Hamburg) is an artist who since the1990s, has worked on urban everyday life and the production of spaces for and by collective desires. This is mirrored in his work, that often reflects and sometimes intervenes, in unusual drawings, installations and collective projects including the independent urban-planning-as-art-and-activism project Park Fiction (1994-2005, 2002) and the transdisciplinary planning office PlanBude (since 2014).
2 November  Grainne Hassett – <A HREF="http://thecalaisbuilds.squarespace.com/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Calais Builds/Hassett Ducatez Architects</A>
Grainne Hassett is a practising architect and senior academic at the SAUL school of architecture University of Limerick. Founded in 1995, Hassett Ducatez Architects is committed to architectural research through practice. In August 2015, she founded the Calais Builds project, and to date has designed, organised or built some of the major community infrastructure of Calais refugee camp.
9 November  Alison Killing- <A HREF="http://www.killingarchitects.com/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Migration Watch/ Killing Architects</A>
Killing Architects is a studio for design and research in architecture and urbanism, based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Founded by Alison Killing in 2010, they work mostly at a bigger scale – architectural design work on larger, mixed-use buildings or developing strategies for neighbourhoods and cities. They have just received funding for a real-time migration tracking project, Migration Watch which will go live in October 2017.
16 November  Alejandro Haiek- <A HREF="https://www.facebook.com/LABPROFAB/videos/1096859523688952/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">The Public Machinery/LAB.PRO.FAB</A>
Venezuelan architect and artist Alejandro Haiek has dedicated his career to resuscitating inactive landscapes, degraded social contexts and post-catastrophe situations. He is the co-founder of the laboratory of design and fabrication LAB.PRO.FAB and The Public Machinery. He is also a professor at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism, Central University of Venezuela.
