Defence & Security is the government's number one priority - how's it going?
Alex Baker was elected as the MP for Aldershot and Farnborough in 2024, where she made history by becoming the first Labour MP and the first woman to represent the constituency since its establishment in 1918. She graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in Technology and History of Art and, prior to her election, she worked as a political officer for the Co-operative Party and was the Community and Sustainability Manager for Battersea Power Station, one of the UK’s largest regeneration projects. She was elected as a member of the House of Commons Defence Select Committee after the election and, in early 2025, she graduated from the Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme. She also serves on two defence-related All Party Parliamentary Groups (APPGs), chairing the APPG for Nepal.
