Overview

This will provide SENDCOs with the confidence to undertake assessments of children and young people with specific learning difficulties.

SPLD: This half-day course will provide SENDCOs with the confidence to undertake assessments of children and young people with specific learning difficulties. The course will include:

Definition of specific learning difficulties.

Typical and atypical literacy development.

Assessments of literacy that can be used in school.

How to interpret the findings from an assessment.

How to link assessment findings with ‘real life’ data such as teacher observation and parental concerns.

How assessment findings might link to strategies and interventions.

This course has been designed in consultation with Sheffield CC EPS and Sheffield NHS SALT services.

The training dates are below and you only need to book on one date.

  • 5 November 2025, 9.00-12.00pm
  • 4 March 2026, 9.00-12.00pm
  • 20 May 2026, 9.00-12.00pm

Free to Sheffield schools and settings.
