Event description

Description

About the day

Spectrum 5, the collections management standard, was launched in September 2017 following extensive consultation with the museum sector. In this session Sarah Brown, Outreach Officer for Collections Trust, will introduce key changes to both content and presentation. We will explore museum documentation with a focus on accountability and museum Accreditation; reviewing the new Spectrum 5 primary procedures and discussing how they are approached by your organisation.

Delegates will be encouraged to participate through discussions and activities, and there will be plenty of opportunity for questions throughout.

We request that attendees bring examples of their organisation’s documentation procedures and plan, to share and discuss during the day.

The workshop will cover:

  • An overview of Spectrum 5, including key changes.

  • The primary procedures required for Museum Accreditation and accountability.

  • What is a documentation backlog?

  • How can we prevent documentation backlogs?

  • The focus of the workshop will be the primary procedures, but there will be an opportunity for delegates to ask about any of the 21 procedures if needed.

Session Leader

This session will be led by Sarah Brown, Outreach Officer for Collections Trust. Sarah joined Collections Trust in late April 2016. Originally training as a conservator, Sarah has worked in a variety of collections management and care roles across the UK, including National Museums Scotland and Powell-Cotton Museum in Kent.

As part of Collections Trust’s Arts Council England funded Activity Plan, Sarah will be delivering around 100 events across the English regions, developed in collaboration with the ACE Museum Development teams. The programme will be varied, with themes and delivery approach responding to local needs, ranging from digitisation to documentation planning and backlogs.

This session is delivered in partnership with Wheal Martyn, part of Cornwall Museum Partnership.
