Description:

Are you interested in writing for performance? Do you want to share your poems on stage, but find you’re not sure where to begin? This workshop will support you to write a short piece of poetry, and consider how to perform it in front of an audience. We’ll go through the basics of open mics and events, talking about how to introduce and perform your poetry, as well as a few tips on dispelling nerves, and networking during events. This workshop will include a short writing activity, discussion and information, and is suitable for people who want to improve their performance poetry skills.

Learning goals:

To learn the basics of performing your poetry out loud;

To encourage confidence in writing and performing;

To learn about open mic etiquette;

To have fun with words.

Leanne Moden:

She’s been performing spoken word poetry at events across the UK and Europe, since 2012, and has shared her poetry at the Edinburgh Fringe, WOMAD Festival, the Living Record Festival, the Brighton Fringe, Sofar Sounds, and Bestival on the Isle of Wight, as well as gigs in Spain, France and Estonia.
