About this event

Embrace the opportunity to learn to carve your own wooden spoon in gorgeous surroundings. Steve will share with you his many years of carving experience and knowledge of the tools and materials to use. You'll learn a range of cutting techniques using an axe, a sloyd knife and a crook knife, allowing you to create your own wooden spoon efficiently and safely.

The experience is suitable for all abilities and is a guaranteed relaxing and satisfying day learning a fantastic new skill.

You'll leave with the skills to be able to practice what you've learnt on your own and of course, you'll take home your own wooden spoon to add to your kitchen collection! There's nothing like eating a nice bowl of porridge or a home-cooked stew with a spoon that you've hand carved yourself or alternatively, give it away as a special and memorable gift.

The course is hosted in complete tranquility on our 8 acre small holding in the Brecon Beacons, in all weathers. We lay on all the campfire tea and coffee you can drink and provide snacks. Please bring your own lunch (which you are welcome to cook over the fire) and some sturdy shoes.

"This was one of the best days I've ever spent. Steve is a brilliant teacher and he and Kirsty made us feel at home from the minute we arrived. Absolutely brilliant hosts and left us feeling that we'd always known them. We learned a great deal and were inspired by them and what they had to teach us."

Experience includes:

  • All the tools and materials you'll need
  • Take home your hand carved wooden spoon
  • Tea and coffee all day - bring your own lunch
  • Leave with the skills to be able to practice spoon carving on your own

Axe & Paddle Bushcraft began back in 2012, when husband and wife team Steven and Kirsty Le Say hosted a Spoon Carving Workshop in a friend’s garden.

We’ve just relocated and opened up our own studio, on an 8 acre smallholding in the Brecon Beacons National Park - where we now host a number of courses, teaching traditional skills and crafts. We also have Shepherds Hut accommodation and camping available.
