The Heritage Lottery Fundis the largest dedicated funder of the UK’s heritage. From museums, parks and historic places to archaeology, natural environment and cultural traditions, HLF invests in every part of our heritage.Funding opportunities range from £3,000 to over £100,000.  For more information visitwww.hlf.org.uk.The Sport in Museums Network is a national organisation that promotes the collection, preservation and access to sporting heritage. Funded by Arts Council England, Sport in Museums is now creating a regional network to support sports and heritage organisations in developing, caring for and sharing the sporting heritage in the East Midlands.

Calling all sports and heritage fans! Join us as we launch two new initiatives in the historic Pavilion at Trent Bridge cricket ground:

We will present two new ways of getting help to protect and share our sporting heritage. You will also have the chance to create new contacts in the sector.
The event is free, but booking is essential.

Afternoon session:
1.30pm: Arrival and refreshments
2.00pm: Welcome and introductions
2.10pm: Justine Reilly (National Programme Manager) and Steve LeMottee (East Midlands Co-ordinator), who will talk about the potential and value of sporting heritage, and about the national and regional activities of the Sport in Museums Network.
2.30pm: Jonathan Platt (Head of Region) and Katie Lloyd (Development Officer), who will share information about HLF's open grant programmes, highlight some successful case studies, and explain what makes a strong application.
2.50pm: Jodie Henshaw from Mansfield Museum. Jodie will describe how an exhibition about the 2012 Olympic Games created lots of community involvement, gained new members for one local sports club and led to the records of another club becoming better protected for the future.
3.10pm: Andy Pearce from the National Football Museum. Andy will speak about the HLF-funded 'Memories of 1966' exhibition, which marked the 50th anniversary of England's famous World Cup win. He will also share his experiences of developing and delivering other heritage projects and engaging with a range of audiences.
3.30pm: Matthew Constantine from Leicester Arts & Museums Service. Matthew will explain some of the success factors and results of a range of sports exhibitions that he has curated – including ‘Fearless Foxes’, which is currently engaging local people and visitors with Leicester City’s achievements.

6.50pm: Tony Chatwin from The Black Belt Code CIC. Tony will share his experiences of working with young people on the HLF-funded project 'Physical Fitness and the Great War'. Hear about the fascinating links between wartime and martial arts training.
7.10pm: Michael Kirk from Leicester Literary and Philosophical Society. Michael will share his experiences of applying for HLF funding and delivering 'Leicester Rugby, Leicester People'. The successful project coincided with the 2015 Rugby World Cup and was supported by a broad range of sports, heritage and education partners.
7.30pm: Catherine Croney from Matlock Baileans Hockey Club. Catherine will give an account of exploring and celebrating Matlock Baileans' 70 year hockey heritage as part of HLF-funded 'Jolly Hockey Sticks'.
7.50pm: Jodie Henshaw, Mansfield Museum
8.10pm: Panel Q&As
8.30pm: Close
 
We will serve tea, coffee and cake during the afternoon, and a light buffet in the evening.
