Spotlight Boost: Working with Directors

Spotlight has been connecting performers with roles in theatre, television and film productions since 1927. It’s our role to keep stages and screens filled with talented performers, so we can continue to watch our favourite characters come to life. With studios in London’s West End and a team of people across the world as part of Talent Systems, Spotlight is truly at the heart of the industry.

Spotlight Boost Workshops

These workshops are open to both Spotlight and non-Spotlight performers. You are welcome to book on to as many sessions as you wish.

<h2>Format: </h2><blockquote>A﻿ge: 18+</blockquote><blockquote>L﻿evel: Any</blockquote><blockquote>M﻿ax Capacity: 30</blockquote><h2>About the workshop</h2>How much preparation should an actor do before rehearsals? How brave can an actor be in the rehearsal room? What choices does a director expect the actor to make and are they allowed to make them? What happens when an actor and director disagree? This workshop looks at the relationship between the actor and director in the rehearsal room and beyond. It starts with how a director gets a play onstage in the first place, how the company is assembled and an exploration of the working relationships which are forged for performers both inside and outside the rehearsal room.About Michael Oakley (he/him) : is a freelance Theatre Director. Most recently he directed the world premiere of a new musical Gin Craze! At Royal and Derngate. Other theatres includes: Romeo and Juliet, Much Ado About Nothing (Shakespeare’s Globe); Wuthering Heights (Lamplight &amp; OSC); NOF*CKSGIVEN (Vault Festival) About Leo (Jermyn Street); Private Lives, As You Like It (Oxford Shakespeare Company); All My Sons, The Country Wife (East15); William Wordsworth (Theatre by the Lake/ETT); A Lovely Sunday for Creve Coeur (The Print Room); Cymbeline, Julius Caesar (LIPA), The Invisible (Bush Theatre); The Life and Times of Fanny Hill (Bristol Old Vic); Variation on a Theme (Finborough Theatre); Dido Queen of Carthage (Marlowe Society); Playhouse Creatures (Chichester Festival Theatre); The Changeling (Southwark Playhouse); Edward II (BAC). As Associate Director Michael has worked with directors including Trevor Nunn, Jonathan Kent, Richard Eyre and Adrian Noble. Michael was formally Trainee Director in Residence at Chichester Festival Theatre and a recipient of the prestigious JMK Award for young directors<h2>Things to note:</h2>- Access requirements: Should you have any access requirements to take part in the session please contact tsevents@spotlight.com at least 7 working days prior to the event.- Cancellation/refunds: 72 hours (3 working days) cancellation for a full refund.
