About the session:
In this class we will be building on all of the core elements of Laban technique and applying this technique to scenes, monologues and personal character prep work, so you feel confident to go into the industry and make the most out of this intensive class.
We will be focussing on layering the efforts and looking at internal and external tempo rhythms that we can apply to characters. We will also look at plotting the efforts throughout a scene, to help create detailed scenes that have a clear journey, sharing with the audience different facets of a character.
This is a purely practical class, where you will learn through practising and honing Laban's efforts.
Skye’s practice focuses on two main aims: for her students to gain huge confidence and independence in Laban's work and crucially, a full understanding of how and where to apply it.
Rudolf von Laban was an extremely popular and prestigious practitioner of acting throughout the 20th century. For decades his work has inspired performers all over the world and his technique’s are as strongly present in the worlds of dance and drama as ever before.
Within this work actors are given a unique structure in which they are free to explore the full range of their characters' physicality and the never ending possibilities of their own.
Skye was trained by Katya Benjamin who has a wealth of experience teaching Laban. Katya has worked at many of the major drama schools and music colleges in London since 1986. She is the main tutor for Alexander Technique and LABAN at RADA and her work has inspired Skye to create her own teaching methods and approach to training actors in Laban's efforts.
"Skye runs things with such warmth and generosity. It's wonderful to see and be a part of."
"I really came out of my comfort zone and you made the space so safe (I find the term ‘safe space’ so pretentious but it actually rang true for once) and relaxed and it felt like I could truly experiment and play."
"Be ready to completely lose control and challenge yourself, but don’t worry with Skye’s guidance you’re completely safe. I especially liked applying it to a written text and seeing how it came alive."
