Is this walk suitable for all dogs?

This walk is designed for Bavarian Mountain Hounds. Friendly sibling dogs are welcome if they are comfortable with calm, structured group walks.

What time should I arrive?

Please arrive from 10:00am so we can gather the group and start walking promptly at 10:30am. Clocks go forward overnight (BST), so please plan ahead.

Is there somewhere to eat or grab food?

Yes. There is a cafe onsite, or you can bring a picnic to enjoy with the group after / during a walk.

Will you wait for us if we’re late?

We encourage anyone running late to message the group WhatsApp with a clear ETA (estimated time of arrival). If it’s just a few minutes, we will wait for you. If it’s more than 5 minutes, you’ll need to catch us up.

Where exactly should we meet?

Where shall I park?

Parking is available in the National Trust car park at Hughenden Manor,
High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, HP14 4LA.

How long / far is the walk?

The walk is approximately 5.3 miles / 8.4 km and takes around 3 hours at a relaxed, social pace with photo stops.

What’s the terrain like?

Moderate countryside paths and woodland trails.

Can I use a long line?

Yes - long lines are welcome where appropriate. Please be mindful of other members & dogs getting caught though. Dogs must remain under control at all times.

Are there toilets / cafe?

Yes. Hughenden Manor has toilets, a café, and picnic areas available.
There is an optional coffee or picnic stop after the walk.

I’m new / Not a member of the Bavarian Walkies Club yet, can I come?

Absolutely. Many people attend their first walk solo, and newcomers are very welcome.

Will there be sheep or livestock?

Yes — this is a working countryside and woodland area, and we may encounter sheep or other livestock along the route.

For everyone’s safety, dogs must be kept under close control at all times. If your dog has a strong prey drive around livestock, this walk may not be suitable.

Will dogs need to be on lead?

There may be sections of the walk where dogs need to be on lead or on a long line, particularly around livestock, wildlife, or narrow paths. Please bring a lead and/or long line so you can respond quickly if needed.

Can Bavarian Puppies attend?

Puppies are welcome if they are comfortable walking in a group and able to manage the full distance. Please consider your puppy’s physical development and stamina before booking.

Is the walk suitable for nervous Bavarians?

Accepted Answer

This is a calm, well-managed walk, but it is still a group environment. Dogs should be comfortable around other dogs at close passing distances. If your dog is highly anxious in group settings, a smaller or private walk may be more suitable.

What happens if the weather is bad?

The walk will go ahead in light rain. In the case of severe weather or unsafe conditions, we will communicate any changes via WhatsApp community.

The walk is hosted by Bavarian Hound Club™, who have been running calm, structured group walks since 2019.

Can I bring children?

This is primarily an adult-focused dog walk. Calm, dog-savvy children are welcome if closely supervised, but please note the distance and duration of the walk.

Who is responsible for safety and liability?

Attendance is at your own risk. By attending, you accept responsibility for your own safety and the safety, behaviour, and control of your dog(s). Bavarian Hound Club™ accepts no liability for injury, loss, or damage to people, dogs, or property. Walks take place in open countryside.
