    ARTISTS BIOS

Elena-Andreea Teleaga is a lens-based media artist whose work is rooted in photography. She creates installations using analogue photography, photo-montages, collages and projections in order to explore the relationship between experience, space and existence. Delving into the experimental side of photography. Being born in a former communist country, Romania, her background is inevitably visible in the body of work which questions the historical past and the present socio-political context.
In 2017, Andreea was awarded the Sarabande Foundation scholarship for studying a Masters programme at Slade School of Fine Art in Fine Art Media, chosen by Frieze co-founder, Matthew Slotover.

Rosa-Johan Uddoh (b.1993, Croydon) is an artist exploring an over-identification with places, objects or celebrities in British popular culture, decolonisation, and the effects of this on self-esteem. Making work across ceramics, performance, fan-fiction and sound, she is still influenced by her architectural background, rooting stories in specific spaces and materials. Rosa studied Architecture Ba at Cambridge University and completed her MA Fine Art Media at The Slade as a Sarabande Foundation Scholar, selected by Nick Knight OBE. She is a 2018 New Contemporaries artist and the first Liverpool Biennial & Liverpool John Moores University Fellow.

Joshua Beaty is a multidisciplinary artist and designer. Since graduating from the MA Fashion Programme at St Martins in 2017, he has worked with Julie Verhoeven, Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY and Dover Street Market London. His work has been photographed for various publications including Dazed & Confused, 10 Magazine and by Wolfgang Tillmans for AnOther Man. Fascinated by the monstrosity of over-interpretation, his works are an investigation of seduction and repulsion; pleasure and pain; life and death.

David Abrahams (b. 1987, Leeds) is a British photographer whose diverse practice encompasses a contextual investigation of subjects across genres of still life, landscape, fashion and documentary photography. His serene images often mask a deeper fundamental questioning of capitalist social structures, consumer necessity, and sustainability. David’s ability to navigate multiple forms in a critically and technically sensitive manner has won him the favour of clients including American Vogue, WSJ, AnOther, British Vogue, W magizine, Gucci, Loewe, Lanvin, Burberry, Miu Miu, and Stella McCartney. David’s first comprehensive exhibition will open this Autumn at Lee Alexander McQueen, Sarabande foundation.

Emma Witter sculptural works are formed from animal bones, which she often salvages from her own cooking. After meticulously cleaning, bleaching and categorising the bones, she assembles into beautifully ornamental, organic forms. Attracted to the bones’ strength and lightness as a material, the artist highlights it’s wide availability as an industrial byproduct.

Grzegorz Stefański has been in Sarabande Studios since October 2018. Before attending art school, he earned master’s degree in philosophy and made his artistic debut in with solo exhibition during Cracow Photomonth Festival in 2010. He concluded his artistic education at The Slade School of Fine Art in London and Mirosław Bałka’s Studio of Spatial Activities in Warsaw. In 2017 he won the Ivan Juritz Prize in London and the Grand Prix at the Biennale of Young Art in Poland. He has exhibited his works at the Whitechapel Gallery in London (2018), Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw (2018), Ujazdowski Castle Centre of Contemporary Art (2018) and Manifesta 11 in Zurich (2016). “spill” is a three-channel installation that develops on motifs around materiality of a performer's body. Fractions of a second are stretched into a sequence that plays over dozens of seconds, with an aim to challenge viewer’s expectations. Born out of personal experience of vulnerability and inspired by early aesthetic of crime scenes photography, the installation can be interpreted not only as a reflection of the performer's private history but also as a commentary on the condition of the contemporary

Camilla Hanney (b.1992) is an Irish artist living and working in London. Using sculpture, ceramics and installation she attempts to provide a voice for fragments of the past that have, over time, become embedded and lost in history. By materializing the familiar in an unfamiliar context she stimulates our ability to rethink our relationship towards objects, threatening the natural order and toying with the tensions that lie between beauty and repulsion, curiosity and discomfort, desire and disgust.

Jonah Pontzer (b.1989) is an American painter living and working in London. He is a 2012 graduate of Central Saint Martins and a current studio resident at Sarabande: The Lee Alexander McQueen Foundation. Jonah’s work draws on tension and dialogues between the physicality of paint and representational imagery of digital culture. In particular, the proliferation of pornography in the mainstream and its cultural impacts. Sourcing imagery from social channels, historical film and media, and physical encounters, Jonah demonstrates his respect for the historical canon of painting through critical engagement with his subject matter and its material rendering.
