Stalking, Harassment, and using the FollowIt App

The training is aimed at those supporting victims/survivors.

Stalking and harassment are forms of gender-based violence (GBV) which can cause fear, distress and alarm. Feedback from victim/survivors is that gathering evidence of stalking can be challenging, distressing and overwhelming. The Scottish Women’s Rights Centre has developed FollowIt App to enable women in Scotland to safely and securely record and store incidents of stalking using their mobile phones. This training session will introduce participants to issues related to stalking and harassment, and to the FollowIt App.

Who can attend?

This free training is designed for organisations and agencies who would like to better recognise the signs of stalking and harassment, and understand the impacts they have on women survivors. Participants will learn about the FollowIt App, and how to refer women they work with to this tool. An understanding of GBV is helpful but not necessary, and you do not need to be working directly with survivors of sexual violence to attend this training.

This session is open to all but has been designed with the following in mind:

• Advocacy Workers

• Support Workers

• Law Students

• Trainee Solicitors

• Social Workers

• Council Workers

• Housing Officers

• Mental Health Charities

• Workers Supporting Women

• Nurses

• Health Sector Workers

Learning objectives

In this session, participants will:

- Be introduced to the Scottish Women's Rights Centre and how we can support women survivors of GBV

- Gain an understanding of GBV and relevant Scots Law, in particular around stalking and harassment and their impacts

- Learn about FollowIt App including how we developed it and how it works; how user’s private information is protected; how to refer women to the app; and how to respond to disclosures of stalking and harassment

- Explore how these issues arise in practice and how the app can be used in real-life situations

This session will be facilitated by Reegan Bonar, Justice Training Worker for Scottish Women’s Rights Centre & Rape Crisis Scotland, and an Advocacy Worker from the Scottish Women’s Rights Centre.
