Staying Defiantly: What does it look like for church leaders to stay when the church leaves you frustrated.

<h2><strong>What the hell is salvation?!</strong></h2><h3>What, Where and When?</h3><p>With our now typical unpolished, poorly-planned and possibly foolhardy attempt to help, we are now inviting you to the second of our ‘Staying Defiantly’ webinars aimed at encouraging leaders questioning the status quo of church life.  We hope this will be a supportive conversation to encourage leaders who this stuff resonates with. </p><p>On the 25th April 2023 at 8pm, Joe Davis (Mid-Faith Podcast), Dave Steell (One Church Brighton) will be running a webinar and we’d love you to join us. Joe will be chatting to Dave, specifically about whether the time has come to reform, or possibly eradicate our notion of what ‘Hell’ actually is!  What would this mean for Mission? Or the gospel?  And if you chuck ‘hell’ out, can you still consider yourself Christian? </p><p>Dave and Joe are positive and hopeful about the future of the church, whilst honest and open enough to see that it can also be hard to see that truth at times! </p><p>We want this to be a safe and encouraging space, so there will be time to talk to others and to ask questions. And ultimately, we want to explore whether or not this has any potential for some sort of ongoing support network of like-minded people in need of assurance that they’re not going completely nuts or off-the-rails (although both could be entirely possible).</p><h3>Staying Defiantly: </h3><p>What does it look like for church leaders to stay when the institution of the church leaves you frustrated, embarrassed or disappointed?</p><h3>Why?</h3><p>Let’s face it, leadership, even in the best times, can be a lonely pursuit. But what does that loneliness look and feel like, when the conflict that you’re trying to resolve isn’t just within the members of your church community but is a conflict that is going on inside of yourself. Many church leaders are increasingly finding a dissonance between the progressive thoughts and theologies of their internal learnings and dialogues and the day-to-day outworking of the stuff of church life. Where preaching sermons or leading prayer meetings or offering words of comfort to needy people, is verbalising thoughts and theories that aren’t completely congruent with the convictions of your heart. How do leaders lead with authenticity and vulnerability, when the changing landscape of their theological convictions is sometimes at odds with the church community that they’re trying to lead?</p><p>This stuff is hard and real and painful. So, let’s not go through it alone. </p>
