Earth-based course helping you reconnect with self, land, ancestry and lost skills for resilience, belonging and purpose.
Staying Human
Seasonal earth-based skills and land-based practice at Fen Zen
About this series
Staying Human is a year-long series of earth-based events (these are the first 6, monthly sessions) for adults who feel the need to slow down, reconnect with the land, and relearn simple, practical ways of being human together.
In a time when many everyday skills, rhythms, and forms of belonging are being lost, this is a space to return to what matters — through doing, not talking.
Sessions take place outdoors at Fen Zen and are shaped by the seasons, the land, and the pace of the group. We will cook lunch together, over the fire, with local and foraged produce. Wild teas and coffee provided. Please bring your own water.
Over the year, we will:
- Gather regularly through the seasons
- Spend time outdoors in all weathers
- Learn and practise simple, land-based and ancestral skills
(such as fire, water, food, tools, shelter, and tending) - Work with seasonal rhythms rather than fixed outcomes
- Balance quiet observation with shared, practical work
- Build resilience, belonging, and confidence through hands-on practice
- Grow a small, consistent group over time
This is not about mastering skills or achieving targets, but about remembering through practice.
This is for you if:
- You feel something essential is being lost and want to respond in a grounded way
- You’re drawn to land-based living, seasonal rhythms, and practical skills
- You want a slower, more human pace — without pressure to perform or explain yourself
- You value learning together, outdoors, over time
No prior experience is needed. However, those who are experienced and knowledgeable are welcome to skill share. The attendees will be part of the design of this offering, so please come with open hearts and a spirit of adventure and willingness to commit!
A note on pace
This is not a course to complete, but a practice to return to.
The work unfolds gradually, shaped by weather, season, and attention.
