About this event

As the previous events were so well received - we are pleased to announce that Barry is back with another talk on Cyber Security. This will be a repeat of the previous events, with some updated information.

Cybercrime and related frauds have been growing at an alarming rate for several years and during the COVID pandemic it has escalated exponentially. Many of the scams originate overseas and there is little chance of identifying or arresting the perpetrators. This is international organised crime. The UK Police Strategy is to educate us on how to identify risks and to help prevent you from falling for them.

A joint seminar put together by Barry Linton of Thorpe Bay u3a and Essex Police has been presented to u3as around the county and also at the 2018 and 2019 National Conferences. This year, you are invited to join Barry as he presents this important seminar online via Zoom

Barry Linton spent his entire working life in the IT Industry. Some on Government secure networks. He is past Chair of Thorpe Bay u3a.

During 2020 Barry was enlisted as a Volunteer within the Local Policing Fraud and Scams protection team

David Gibb of Essex Police provided much of the material. He presently heads the Protection Team in the Essex and Kent Serious Crime Directorate.

This online seminar will present key elements of the live demonstration and also discuss some of the very latest threats that are particularly aimed at the u3a generation.

Don't use a Laptop, Tablet or Smartphone? You are still at risk! Sign up to learn how to stay safe.

The presentation will last for 50 minutes with time for questions and answers at the end.

This event is for u3a members only.
