Overview

Join Mark Z Jacobson for an inspiring online event on practical solutions to today’s most urgent environmental challenges.

Join Mark Z. Jacobson, author of Still No Miracles Needed (Cambridge University Press, 2026), for an engaging online event addressing the urgent challenges of air pollution, climate change, and energy security.

Discover how existing and proven technologies can harness, store, and transmit energy from wind, water, and sunlight to power a sustainable future.

Stanford professor and author, Mark Z Jacobson, will give an inspiring online event on practical solutions to today’s most urgent environmental challenges.

This session draws from Jacobson’s upcoming book, Still No Miracles Needed (Cambridge University Press, 2026), written for readers who are concerned about air pollution, climate change and energy security. Discover why we don’t need miracle technologies to solve these crises – and how existing, proven solutions can harness, store and transmit energy from wind, water and sunlight to deliver reliable electricity and heat worldwide.

Jacobson will also explore technologies that are often promoted but may hinder progress, including fossil gas, carbon capture, blue hydrogen, bioenergy and nuclear energy. Discover what individuals, communities and nations can do to accelerate the transition to wind, water and solar (WWS), and what the cost, health, climate and land benefits of these solutions are likely to be.

Finally, hear Jacobson’s personal journey in developing 100% WWS transition plans for countries, states and cities – a vision that led to the founding of The Solutions Project. This non-profit organisation helped to spark a global movement, influencing laws, policies and corporate commitments. Today, over 400 companies have pledged to transition, and these plans even shaped major proposals such as the Green New Deal.

Mark Z Jacobson has been a professor at Stanford University since 1994. His research crosses two fields: atmospheric sciences and energy. To date, he has published 191 peer-reviewed journal articles and given ~800 invited talks. In 2004, he founded and has ever since directed the Atmosphere/Energy program at Stanford. Jacobson has published seven books, including:

• Fundamentals of Atmospheric Modeling (Cambridge University Press, 2005).

• Atmospheric Pollution: History, Science, and Regulation (Cambridge University Press, 2002).

• 100% Clean, Renewable Energy and Storage for Everything (Cambridge University Press, 2020).

• No Miracles Needed (Cambridge University Press, 2023).

• Still No Miracles Needed (Cambridge University Press, 2026).
