Stop the fascists marching in our city! Don’t let them rally in Victoria Square! This Saturday the fascist Britain First are planning to come to Birmingham, one of the UK’s most diverse cities, to call for mass deportations. They have told their supporters that they will not be visiting ‘the bad, multicultural areas of Birmingham’. Instead, they will be in the City Centre.Shamefully the police have made the decision to allow them to march to Victoria Square, Birmingham’s most iconic and most central public space, where they will be allowed to have their rally. Furthermore, the police have told anti-racist activists in the city that that anyone who wants to oppose the fascist march will be allowed to assemble but will not be permitted to march.Britain First is a racist, fascist, and homophobic hate group. Their leader is a convicted race-hate criminal. Their activists oppose Black Lives Matter, celebrate police violence, and claim “English blood is white.” Their goal is to divide us, scapegoat Muslims and people of colour, and create a Britain where only the privileged feel they belong. On May 17th, they plan to march through Birmingham, calling it a “March for Remigration” — code for mass deportation. They say “Britishness” but mean exclusion. They say “belonging” but mean erasure.But Birmingham has always been built by working-class people of all backgrounds. The city’s crisis — poverty, cuts, collapsing services — is not caused by migrants, but by a rigged system and years of austerity. Fascists like Britain First want to turn our frustration into hate. Cancel Britain First's racist rally in Victoria Square.Stand Up To Racism Birmingham welcomes Birmingham City Council’s decision to prevent vehicle access to Victoria Square for Britain First on Saturday.This is a step in the right direction and shows that the council are feeling the pressure from Birmingham residents. We do not want a fascist organisation marching in our city.The change in policy has infuriated Britain First who hate Birmingham and everything our city represents.But if the Council is truly committed to equality and community cohesion as it says it is, then it needs to do more than raise a few bollards.Questions that still need to be answered: - Why was fascist Britain First permitted to use Victoria Square for their rally in the first place? - Why have Britain First been granted permission to march in the City Centre, when Birmingham residents who are campaigning against the racist event were told we would not be allowed to march in our own city?We need to keep the pressure up on Birmingham City Council.
