Stop Jailing Truth Tellers!📆 Saturday 3rd August🕑 12-1:30pm🧘🏾‍♂️Gandhi Statue in Parliament Square <a href="https://maps.app.goo.gl/KRDyU1YePRiFvYTu9" title="https://maps.app.goo.gl/KRDyU1YePRiFvYTu9" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">https://maps.app.goo.gl/KRDyU1YePRiFvYTu9</a> This will be a peaceful, family-friendly rally collaboratively organised by Defend Our Juries, Just Stop Oil, Fossil Free London, and Extinction Rebellion. This rally is for everyone who wants this to be a country where people aren’t banned from speaking about climate change in court. It’s for anyone who thinks that a justice system isn’t just that lets fossil fuel executives walk free while people speaking out about catastrophic climate change spend years in prison.Wheelchair ramps will be available.—The prisons are full, violent criminals are to be released early, the police are warning of a breakdown in law and order. And yet, almost 200 people have been imprisoned for peacefully engaging in civil resistance since 2019 in this country. Now, five people have received prison sentences of 4-5 years for speaking about a climate protest on a Zoom call. When they tried to speak to the jury about their reasons for being on that Zoom call, the judge deemed any mention of climate change “irrelevant” to the case. Join us in calling out this absurd miscarriage of justice.At this rally, we stand in solidarity with the Whole Truth Five - Cressida Gethin, Dan Shaw, Louise Lancaster, Lucia Whittaker De Abreu, and Roger Hallam; Amy Pritchard who received a 10-month custodial sentence earlier this year for taking action with Extinction Rebellion; Sean O’Callaghan, Rory Wilson, Adam Beard, Sally Davidson, Luke Elson, Rosa Hicks, Luke Watson and Hannah Schafer who were arrested outside Heathrow Airport and sent to prison without a trial; and Paul Bell, Theresa Higginson, Gaie Delap, Paul Sousek and George Simonson who received 20-24-month sentences for climbing gantries on the M25. We will finish at 1pm and join the <a href="https://palestinecampaign.org/events/national-march-for-palestine-3/" title="https://palestinecampaign.org/events/national-march-for-palestine-3/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Palestine March</a> together.
