Stop Motion Animation (SEND Session)
Get ready to design and create your very own short animated scene in this stop motion workshop for children aged 7-12!
Stop motion animation is made by taking a series of still photographs and adjusting the subject slightly between each shot. When they’re played back in quick succession, they create the illusion of movement. You might recognise this technique from well-known films such as Chicken Run or Coraline.
This stop motion animation workshop offers an exciting opportunity to let creativity run free. Using Stop Motion Studio, you’ll build your own miniature world using paper. Fully hands-on and fun, Stop Motion Animation is engaging, exciting, and packed with creative possibilities.
Each session is 2 hours long. Sign up for one of two sessions on Saturday 17th January:
10:30am - 12:30pm
1:30pm - 3:30pm
What you’ll do
You will:
- Design characters and plan out your story
- Create puppets, props and backgrounds
- Learn camera techniques to film your animation
Who’s this for?
This is a workshop for SEND children aged 7-12.
SEND sessions are designed to support children with additional needs. We do this by:
- Playing calming music at the start and end of the workshop
- Having a 15-minute transition time at the start and end of each session to give children time to settle/ prepare to finish
- Running short practical sessions - with a break in the middle
- Having a variety of fidget toys to hand
- Having smaller group sizes - a maximum of ten children and ten accompanying adults
You can see a full list of available workshops here.
What you need to bring
All workshop equipment is provided.
We welcome you to bring any assistive aids that will help your child feel more comfortable (e.g., ear defenders or a specific fidget toy).
All children must be accompanied by an adult. Every booking automatically grants entry to an accompanying adult. Due to venue size, we ask that you don't bring more grown-ups so that everyone has plenty of room to create!
Cost
This event is free to attend. We charge a £3 booking fee, which is refunded after you attend the event. If you prefer, you can also leave it as a donation to MadLab CIC to support future community-led events. Refunds are processed within seven working days via our booking platform, Eventbrite.
If you cannot afford a ticket, please email office@madlab.org.uk with your name and postcode, and we will be in touch.
Additional information
Light refreshments and snacks will be provided.
This workshop uses Stop Motion Studio, a free app for animations on tablets and mobiles which you can download and use at home.
