How to use the Sometimes it Hurts creative resources

As part of our BASH and GAMP AAP-funded Rabbits in Headlights project, Changing Relations is delighted to offer a fully-subsidised CPD session for schools and youth organisations based in South West Durham this Summer term.

Our Sometimes it Hurts learning resources have been developed with young people, academics and creative practitioners to support educational professionals to have supportive conversations with young people affected by abuse, neglect and divorce in their homes. The creative activities and digital resources are designed to help you explore the Sometimes it Hurts story series and navigate a range of crucial themes relating to young people’s experiences of tricky experiences in their home settings.

This will be a half-day practical delivery-focused session to give you confidence to use our beautifully illustrated stories and specially created learning resources with your young people. Participants will be introduced to the resources and the role they can play in your work with young people. Our pilot schools have used the resources both in a:

· One-to-one pastoral context with young people they already know to be affected

· Whole class context to open a dialogue around abuse, neglect and divorce, which may be a key mechanism for you identify who needs support, as, without these themes being talked about openly, young people might not identify themselves as experiencing this & as in need of support

We hope that by taking part in the CPD, more professionals working with young people will feel confident and empowered to support young people with the tricky subject of abuse.

We will deliver three of these sessions in South West Durham. Each session will be for 1 to 3 educational professionals per school or group, with each session open to a range of schools and groups to attend.

These sessions are suitable for staff working directly with young people (such as class teachers, youth workers, counsellors or those in other safeguarding or pastoral roles) and will give an opportunity for those attending to become Sometimes it Hurts champions, equipped to share the resources, and encourage their use, amongst your wider staff teams.

Please only book to attend one of the sessions, as each of these three sessions will be the same, staff only need to attend one date. We are hosting three sessions in order to offer flexibility and multiple locations, giving you chance to choose the most convenient time and place for your busy schedule.

Huge thanks to our partner schools for hosting these sessions!
