Welcome to AI Ethics and Society Edinburgh!We are a group of researchers intrerested in the ethical and social implications of emerging technologies. We meet fortnightly and discuss AI ethics via a series of talks, reading groups, screenings and workshops.

Why  do individuals disclose sensitive, even intimate, information about themselves?

4.1 Lister Centre

Led by Yazmin Morlet Corti, this event will explore how different conditions influence processes that collect information from users, with a specific discussion of ethical tensions in the practice of designing these systems.Leslie, Acquisti and Loewenstein explore through 4 experiments why individuals chose to disclose sensitive and sometimes even intimate information about themselves. They ask which conditions lead people to self-disclose sensitive information; one of the main findings suggests that people are more prone to giving information away in informal contexts.
