The course
This course is designed to support strategic career development for experienced analysts. Whether you are considering promotion, looking to deepen your knowledge as an expert in your analytical field or simply deciding what to do next, the course will provide you with tools to develop a fulfilling career.
During the course you will have the opportunity to reflect on your career to date and take stock of your skills before developing aspirations for the future. You will be encouraged to consider diverse future career possibilities, even those that are currently hard to imagine as an analyst. We will also discuss the importance of developing broader leadership, management and communications skills which are key to ensuring analysts keep a wide range of career choices open.

The logistics
The course is run over three half-days, 10am – 1pm on 19 and 26 September and 10 October 2025. There is some preparation ahead of the course and exercises between sessions.
The course is delivered fully online over three half-day sessions. It will be presented by Catherine Connolly from economicsense and is highly interactive.

The tutor
Catherine Connolly is the founder of economicsense. Catherine is also on the Council of the Society of Professional Economists, and teaches economic appraisal at Queen Mary University.
Prior to setting up economicsense, Catherine was a Senior Civil Servant in the British Civil Service – working among others at HM Treasury and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs – and a member of the Government Economic Service. She has also worked for Deutsche Bank Research in Frankfurt, the New Zealand Treasury and the Reserve Bank of New Zealand.
Catherine studied at Otago University in New Zealand, where she gained a post-graduate honours degree, specialising in macro-economics.
