Strategic Planning and Benchmarking Masterclass

TheTaskforce’s role is to enable the delivery of the recommendations from theIndependent Library Report for Englandand to build upon, and add value to existing good practice, partnerships and other activities that are already supporting public libraries. It also promote libraries to national and local government and to potential funders, and create a strong and coherent narrative around the contribution public libraries make to society and to local communities.

Libraries Taskforce

In August and September, the Taskforce has designed and tested an <A HREF="https://librariestaskforce.blog.gov.uk/2017/08/30/an-evidence-based-strategic-planning-toolkit/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">evidence-based strategic planning toolkit </A>and a <A HREF="https://librariestaskforce.blog.gov.uk/2017/09/15/benchmarking-framework/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Benchmarking Framework</A> which libraries can choose to use for self-assessment (<A HREF="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/benchmarking-framework-for-library-services" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Actions 10 and 13 from the Libraries Deliver: Ambition document).</A>
These are designed to help libraries assess the services they currently provide, and then think long-term as they plan and develop their library service, in consultation with their communities. The strategic planning guidance lays an emphasis on how the library service can help meet wider corporate objectives, taking into account other local service provision both within the area and across council boundaries.
We know that it’s invaluable to hear from people who’ve already embarked on this sort of work. You'll be able to learn from their real-life experiences - what worked well, what less well, the sort of techniques and approaches they’ve used, the challenges they’ve faced and the skills and outlook that’s needed for success.
You’ll also have a chance to explore LG Inform and LG Inform Plus as part of the day, so please bring your laptops. 
<H2>Who should attend?</H2>
· Portfolio holders, other senior councillors and senior leaders at officer level (such as chief executives, corporate directors and those leading council transformation or continuous improvement initiatives)
· People involved in managing libraries (both council-run and community managed)
The masterclass will take place at Leeds Central Library on Thursday 29 November. It will run from 10:00 to 16:00 (registration and tea and coffee from 09:30) and lunch / refreshments will be provided. Please let us know of any dietary requirements.
