Overview

Try it, Play it! Find the instrument that inspires you and book a slot for our Instrumental Taster Lessons!

Our Instrumental Taster Lessons offer children (aged 7+) a fun and engaging opportunity to explore the world of music by trying out a range of woodwind (flute, clarinet and saxophone) and string (violin, viola and cello) instruments.

(Brass taster sessions are on Wednesday 22 April - book here.)

These ten minute hands‑on sessions are designed to introduce young learners to different sounds, techniques, and playing styles, helping them discover which instrument inspires them the most.

During each taster, children will:

  • Handle and try real instruments with guidance from our experienced music tutors
  • Learn how each instrument works and what makes its sound unique
  • Experiment with producing notes in a relaxed, encouraging environment
  • Ask questions and gain confidence before choosing an instrument to learn

Whether a child already shows an interest in music or is completely new to learning an instrument, these tasters provide a fun, low‑pressure way to help children and young people find the instrument they're most drawn to.

This event supports families in making informed choices about future lessons — and helps spark a lifelong love of music.

Each taster session is £5.00 and you'll arrive ten minutes before your allocated time for a briefing before you have your lesson. You do not need to ring anything with you.

Please indicate your accessibility requirements at the time of booking. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with Judith at musicservice@walthamforest.gov.uk
