About this Event
Pioneers: William Morris and the Bauhaus is the first exhibition in the UK to fully explore the relationship between the English Arts and Crafts movement and the Bauhaus, the ground-breaking German art school established by Walter Gropius.
This half day study session introduces the central themes of Pioneers through illustrated talks from its curators Roisin Inglesby and Ilaria Puri Purini, followed by a preview and private view of the exhibition.
Includes refreshments.

3.05-3.30 William Morris: design pioneer
Roisin Inglesby, William Morris Gallery & lead curator of the exhibition.
What was innovative and distinctive about Morris as designer? How were his design principles taken up by later Arts and Crafts movements?
3.30-3.55 The Bauhaus: transforming 20th Century Design
Ilaria Puri Purini, co-curator of the exhibition will give an overview of the Bauhaus movement founded in 1919 Germany and look at some of its innovations and iconic products
3.55-4.15 Introduction:themes and highlights of the William Morris Gallery Pioneers Exhibition
Roisin Inglesby will discuss the key concepts and objects in the show
