Sunday Stitchery - March

The Stitchery, founded by Cassandra Belanger (she/her), runs small, sustainability-minded sewing and quilting classes in Glasgow and Dunblane, Scotland.  At The Stitchery, we are dedicated to empowering sewists, fostering skill development, and nurturing a vibrant creative community. We are an LGBTQI+ friendly and inclusive space, welcoming individuals of all genders, sizes, and backgrounds to participate in our courses.

<h2>Description</h2>Sunday 22nd March | 12pm – 4pm | £55If you need some help with a sewing project or just some extra time in the studio with a machine, then this sewing session is ideal. Come along and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of The Stitchery, meet new people, and get expert help with your creations. Bring along your upcycling, your alterations, or any unfinished projects that you just need a little help with.Each session is 4 hours long, but you are welcome to come and go as you please. We have sewing machines available but you are welcome to bring along your own machine. We also have an overlocker and a coverlocker that are available on request. You are also very welcome to bring along your own sewing machine if you prefer.What’s Included:<ul><li>Use of a studio sewing machine</li><li>Use of the overlocker and coverlock machines.</li><li>4 hours with expert advice on your projects, including expertise in sustainable sewing practices.</li><li>Complete use of the studio space, cutting table, and tools.</li><li>A selection of threads, patterns, and other haberdashery for sale in studio.</li><li>A chance to meet other sewers and be more involved in the local sewing community.</li></ul>Please note, the sewing sessions are not intended as a beginners sewing class and those attending should have a basic understanding of how to use a sewing machine. <h2>About Your Tutor</h2>Cassandra Belanger (she/her) has 14 years of experience working in sustainable design, textiles and garment construction with a Masters in Fashion + Textiles focussing on zero waste design. Her work is an invitation to a more sustainable future and education is at the centre of her creative practice. She is the Founder of The Stitchery Studio, Co-Founder of the <a href="https://www.zwdcollective.org/" title="https://www.zwdcollective.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Zero Waste Design Collective</a> and Founding Member of <a href="https://www.instagram.com/sustfashscotland/?hl=en" title="https://www.instagram.com/sustfashscotland/?hl=en" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Sustainable Fashion Scotland</a>. She was the Resident Sewing Instructor at the Central Scottish School of Craft and previously a Fashion and Textile Lecturer at Glasgow West College. Her research interests centre around sustainable fashion and textile design education and fashion systems for a post growth economy. Her design and teaching practice explores issues such as zero waste, waste colonialism, transparency, feminism, sizeism, and body image. This means that if you need to cancel your booking more than 14-days PRIOR to the ticketed session you will be able to receive a partial refund of £45. After that date, partial refunds are not gauranteed so please get in touch so we can discuss your situtation.If for any reason you change your mind and need to cancel your booking, please email us (info@thestitcherystudio@gmail.com) immediately so that we can release your place to someone on the waiting list.
