Deptford X is a visual arts charity based in Deptford, South East London. We foster artistic talent and nurture community within the borough of Lewisham and beyond. We achieve this through a free biennial festival in Deptford and ongoing activity supporting artists and our local communities throughout the year.Founded in 1998, Deptford X is London’s longest-running visual arts festival. Every two years, we stage a free, ten-day festival, working with hundreds of artists to locate art at the centre of everyday life for all of the area’s communities.

Harold Offeh -Soft power in the art world

Join artist Harold Offeh to talk about the unspoken rules of the art world; what to say in studio visits, how to read and respond to questions in social art world settings, how to spot when social settings are actually networking opportunities, and other ambiguous situations.*You may only book onto one session in the Support Network series*This and all Support Network sessions are open to early-career, artists of colour only. Harold Offeh (born 1977) works in a range of media including performance, video, photography, learning and social arts practice. Offeh often employs humour as a means to confront the viewer with historical narratives and aspects of contemporary culture. He is interested in the space created by the inhabiting or embodying of history. Recent projects have explored encounters with museum objects and artefacts, forgotten queer histories and intersections of the body and technology. Through performance, collaboration and conversation, he develops work that responds to places, situations and histories.He has exhibited widely in the UK and internationally including Tate Britain and Tate Modern, London; the Studio Museum in Harlem, New York; South London Gallery, London; MAC VAL, Paris; Kulturhuset, Stockholm; and Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Copenhagen.
