Mutual Aid is an online festival of workshops, discussions and artists presentations exploring the radical act of caring for each other while working to change the world.

<h2>Support Not Separation</h2><h3>Legal Action for Women, Recovering Justice and Ubuntu Women Shelter</h3><p>1.30 – 3.30pm</p><p>DISCUSSION</p><p>Organisers from Legal Action for Women, Recovering Justice and Ubuntu Women Shelter meet together to discuss the principle of support not separation. Every year children are wrenched by the state from their mothers and primary carers, then placed into that often most uncaring of places - care. </p><p>What motivates these imposed separations? How can they be avoided? What are the barriers of shame, stigma, isolation, racism and sexism that people have to push through in a struggle to be reunited with their children? </p><p>This discussion will open up recognition of powerful grassroots resistance to unjust separations and the complex forces that precedes such crises. It will create a space to learn from the approach of these grassroots feminist organisations and strategise ways to support relationships between mothers, parents, carers and their children based on respect and empowerment. </p><h2></h2><p></p>

<h1>Access Information</h1><h2></h2><h2>Live Captions</h2><p>All events will have live captions. This involves the verbatim transcription by a captioner of dialogue into text form as it is spoken live. </p><p>When possible, this transcript will be available to download after the event. </p><p>All films that are screening will have subtitles.</p><h2></h2><h2>British Sign Language</h2><p>All events will have British Sign Language (BSL) interpretation. One BSL interpreter will be pinned so that you will always be able to see them in each event. </p><h2></h2><h2>Audio Description </h2><p>Audio Description is when visual information is described by someone speaking in English. Speakers will self describe, as well as being joined by a specialist audio describer for most events. </p><h2></h2><h2>Fund for Childcare, Carers &amp; Support Workers</h2><p>Support towards the cost of childcare, carers or support workers is available on a first come first served basis for those who need it to be able to attend any of these events. This is a limited fund that we will try to spread across different sessions.</p><p>We will pay you:</p><p>£15 per 1 hour session</p><p>£22.50 per 90 minute session</p><p>Unfortunately, due to high international banking fees, we can only offer this to people based in the UK. The money will be paid directly into your bank account or alternative arrangements can be made if required. We are unable to book childcare, carers or support workers on your behalf. Survival work, when done alongside social movement demands for transformative change, is called mutual aid”. </blockquote><blockquote>Dean Spade - Mutual Aid: Building Solidarity During This Crisis (and the next)</blockquote><p>Join us to listen, chat and think together as we ask, amongst other things: </p><p>How do we create durable movements to combat injustice, while also meeting the immediate needs of the people harmed by poverty, criminalization, racism, transphobia, and ableism?</p><p>How do we think differently about criminalisation and risk, collectively working to find solutions to oppression, policing, incarceration and state violence?</p><p>How do mutual aid practices based on the lived and living experiences of people who use drugs help us to imagine the kinds of systemic change made possible when we prioritise people supporting each other?</p><p>If we follow Disability Justice practices that approach “care as an event” rather than as a "contract of exchange”, what becomes possible in how we know, care for, and appreciate each other? </p><p>How do practices of revolutionary motherhood and queer kinship rethink, shift and radicalise care beyond the domain of the nuclear family?</p><h2><a href="https://arika.org.uk/sites/default/files/uploads/Events/Mutual_Aid/arika-ma-schedule.pdf" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">View/Download PDF of the event schedule here.</a></h2>
