Description
With people living longer and the expectation to work until at least 68, organisations need to build their knowledge and support systems to enable older employees to stay in work longer, remain included and also prepare for a healthy and happy retirement.
The East Midlands HR Network has collaborated with Age UK Notts, Bath & Main and Henpicked to provide insight, raise awareness and get the conversation going about older people’s issues!
Age UK Notts
Did you know that 14,500 people are aged 100 or more? One day, we’ll laugh at the prospect of retiring at 68!
Age UK Nottingham & Nottinghamshire is active in helping employers understand the demographic time bomb that is the result of significant improvements in longevity for older people.
In this session, they'll take a light-hearted look at some key statistics that might raise an eyebrow or two and consider the impact of those demographic shifts on your workforce. They'll look at the concept of the ‘sandwich generation’, capitalising on the skills, experience and knowledge of older workers and how to help those who have caring responsibilities.
Bath & Main Associates
Bath and Main Associates work with organisations to support their staff in preparing for life after paid work. They help organisations take a flexible approach which recognises the benefits of retaining older workers as well as the need to help them understand and plan for various future scenarios. This short session will give an overview of the opportunities and challenges for businesses and staff regarding retirement, as well as an outline of the 'Flying Ostriches' concept.
Henpicked
Back in the 1900s, women went through menopause at 57 and died at 59, so it really was the beginning of the end! Today, women menopause at 51, work until 68 and live to be 81 (on average). That's 30 years post menopause, with 3 out of 4 women coping with symptoms on top of working and caring for others.
Henpicked is one of the UK's largest, fastest growing communities for women over 40. They want everyone to talk about menopause openly, understand what it is, for women to get the advice and support they need, and help thousands of women (and men!) live better lives.
In fact they want Nottingham to be the first menopause-friendly city in the UK. Deborah will share why they believe that's important and what it means for employers.
