Supporting GPs Through Maternity Leave: Practical Tips for Practice Manager

Supporting GPs Through Maternity Leave: Practical Tips for Practice Manager

Online event
Thursday, May 14 from 1 pm to 2 pm GMT+1
Overview

A short practical session to give busy Practice Managers simple ways to better support GPs through maternity leave and their return to work.

Becoming a mother is for most women the biggest identity transition they go through after adolescence. Maternity leave is a significant moment in a GP’s career and a critical point for retention in general practice.

Many GPs reconsider their long-term future in general practice during maternity leave or when returning to work - is this a role that will enable them to be the clinician they want as well as the mother they want?

When practices support doctors well through pregnancy, maternity leave and their return to work, they are far more likely to retain experienced clinicians, maintain continuity for patients, and build a reputation as a supportive place to work.

Yet many practice managers and partners tell us they feel uncertain about how best to support GPs during this time, particularly alongside the operational pressures of running a busy practice.

This practical webinar will share simple, effective ways practices can better support GPs through maternity leave and their return to clinical work.

Why this matters for practices

We understand that General Practice is under significant workforce pressure, and retaining experienced GPs is increasingly important. The support doctors receive during maternity leave and their return to work can have a lasting impact on whether they stay in their role and continue their careers in general practice.

In this session we will explore:

  • Why maternity leave is a key moment for GP workforce retention
  • The most common challenges GPs face when returning to work after maternity leave
  • What practice managers and partners can do to make the transition back to work smoother

Who is this webinar for?

  • Practice Managers
  • GP Partners
  • PCN leaders
  • Anyone involved in supporting the GP workforce

What you’ll leave with

  • A clearer understanding of the challenges GPs often face when returning from maternity leave
  • Practical ways to support returning doctors in your practice
  • Simple steps that can make a significant difference to retention and support wellbeing
