Our Mission:The British Institute of Interior Design is committed to encouraging and supporting creativity and competence in the field of interior design through facilitating best practice, practical professional support, development opportunities and education.Our Standards:In addition to rigorous entry requirements which assess training, experience and professionalism, we require our members to continue their professional development throughout their career to ensure their continued expertise in design process, practice and regulatory matters.The British Institute of Interior Design isthe only professional organisation for interior designers which has been granted the prestigious and rare accolade of Institute status by the Minister of State as the pre-eminent body in its field.History:The organisation was founded in 1965 as the Interior Decorators and Designers Association (IDDA). In 2001, the IDDA was amalgamated with the globally recognised International Interior Design Association UK Chapter (IIDA), to form the British Interior Design Association (BIDA). The Secretary of State recognised the BIDA as the pre-eminent body in the field in 2009 and granted Institute status so it became the British Institute of Interior Design.Outreach:The British Institute of Interior Design is a member of the Construction Industry Council (CIC), the All Parliamentary Design and Innovation Group (APDIG), the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI), the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) and the Creative Industries Federation.

The Surface Design Show 2025 will be welcoming BIID members and partners to an early morning breakfast and talk. Taking place in the Designers Hub, BIID President Angelina Bardino will be in conversation with BIID Registered Interior Designer Ed O'Donnell, who was recently Highly Commended at the BIID Interior Design Awards. Come along and find out how Ed has built an excellent working partnership and built a successful business.This will be followed by informal networking between interior designers and industry partners. A light breakfast will be served whilst encouraging effective and productive relationship building.Open to both professional interior designer members (excludes BIID students) and industry partners (note, maximum of 2 guests per partner).Breakfast attendees will be given exclusive access to the SDS before the show opens at 10am.Please note: All attendees will be required to register to attend <a href="https://biid.org.uk/events/surface-design-show-2025" title="https://biid.org.uk/events/surface-design-show-2025" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">SDS 2025</a>.
