Sussex Blazing Saddles, in partnership with Community Supporters, is running a series of FREE talks and sewing workshops to Re-Imagine, Re-Frame, and Re-make women’s clothing for cycling in Bexhill.
About the event:
Come and transform preloved clothes – repair or make them fit; transform them completely by adding splashes of colour or different fabrics; or merge two or more completely different items in a chaotic experiment. We’re remaking old leggings into flashy shorts and creating a dressing-up box of suffrage sashes, bloomers upcycled from leggings and men’s shirts (for a touring, Sussex Blazing Saddles exhibition starting at Bexhill Museum from 1- 16 June).
We'll be running morning and afternoon sewings sessions on both dates, which are open to everyone. You can sign up for a session, drop in & out, or stay for the whole day:
Saturday 1 June - 10.30am-12.30pm &/or 1pm-3pm
Monday 10 June - Saturday 1 June - 10.30am-12.30pm &/or 1pm-3pm
More info on the exhibition:
The Sussex Blazing Saddles exhibition will tour to our four partner areas of Bexhill, Newhaven, Brighton & Hove, Bexhill and Worthing:
1-14 June around Bexhill Museum; with a fuller exhibition 15 & 16 June in the Education Room
18 - 30 June – Worthing Museum
1-15 September – Newhaven Library
16 - 30 September – Jubilee Library, Brighton
The exhibition will feature stories of pioneering female cyclists around Sussex; epic rides, racing and colourful events; how cycling transformed women’s clothing, rational dress cycle clothing patterns and a dressing up box to try on upcycled versions. There’ll also be talks, workshops and books to enjoy, & it will be configured differently in each location. Come find out more!
