At this very moment when COP27 is happening in Sharm Al Sheikh in Egypt and we are bombarded with information, claims and counter-claims, we all want to re-think our own progress towards sustainability, climate justice and climate action.
This event is planned as an opportunity to network and exchange ideas learning from some experts who have been working on these issues.
From 13:00 to 15:30, there will be a special speaker and panel event in the Norcroft Auditorium. The event will include a range of engaging speakers who will be discussing sustainability topics including: Food Wastage and Recycling, Human Rights & Water, Climate Change negotiations and learning from fragile and conflict contexts, and of course Cop 27.
The event will be hosted by Professor PB Anand and will be an opportunity to find out more about sustainability key topics and ask questions to a panel of speakers. Prof Amir Sharif, Dean of Faculty of Management, Law and Social Sciences will open the event. Mr Stuart McKinnon Evans will introduce the new initiative of sustainability grants available for students to apply. We have Mark Millar, an alumnus of the Department and a person who has worked for over two decades in Foreign and Commonwealth Office, in UN Secretary General's team and in Darfur, Sudan. We will also have Alexandra Ghinea, Sustainability Manager at Baxterstorey to share with us their approach to sustainability. We also have Professor Ashraf Ashour, Faculty of Engineering and Informatics and Dr Pedi Obani (tbc) from the School of Law as panellists. Subject to time we aim to have an interactive game (designed by Prof Anand) to simulate COP27.
Light refreshments will also be provided during the afternoon, along with giveaways, including a lunch voucher worth £2.50 for everyone who attends the full event to spend at one of the food outlets in the Atrium.
