Join Art UK and the Scottish Contemporary Art Network for this informal online event exploring ways of sustaining a creative practice. The event is funded by Creative Scotland and will be chaired by Moira Jeffrey, with Harvey Dimond, Sabrina Henry and Vivian Ross-Smith on the panel.

The event will explore different types of creative practices, as well as ways of developing practices and strategies for sustaining them. It is open to anyone interested in pursuing a career in the creative industries as well as early-career artists and writers.

This event will be delivered as a Zoom meeting, and will be recorded. You are welcome to keep your camera switched off throughout the event if you wish.

About the panel

Moira Jeffrey

As Director of the Scottish Contemporary Art Network, Moira leads the organisation, with a particular focus on public affairs and advocacy. She has more than 25 years' experience in the visual arts in Scotland, including roles in arts journalism and broadcasting, governance and public funding, organisational development work and research. She is a former solicitor and journalism lecturer, and has degrees in Law, and Art History and Politics.

Harvey Dimond

Harvey Dimond is a writer, editor and artist living and working between Scotland and South Africa. Their practices explore the histories and trajectories of colonialism and the climate crisis from a transatlantic viewpoint. They have a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from the Glasgow School of Art and an MA in African Literature from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.

Sabrina Henry

Sabrina Henry is a curator, costume & textile artist. Her curatorial work creates spaces, defined by enquiry, to articulate speculations and futures relating to the legacies of diasporic presence, colonialism, power and modernity. In her costume and textile practice, her focus is on geographies of the Atlantic, using handcraft techniques to create contemporary artefacts that connect pre-colonial African diasporic traditions with the contemporary British experience. As part of her practice, Sabrina co-facilitates the British Art Network research group, The Re-Action of Black Performance, and is Head of Programme at the Centre for Contemporary Art, Glasgow.

Vivian Ross-Smith

Vivian Ross-Smith (she/her) is an artist, educator and producer. She makes site-specific paintings, textiles and performances that consider touch, place, community-building and practices of care and rest. Exploring sensuality and the queering of materiality, she encourages a bodily response to her artwork through participation and happenings. Vivian has a BA (Hons) from Gray’s School of Art (2013) and a Masters with Distinction from Glasgow School of Art (2020). She was the inaugural recipient of the Freelands Foundation Studio Fellowship at Swansea College of Art (2023).
