Suturing: Mastering the Basics – Predictable Soft Tissue Closure for GDPs
Suturing for GDPs: closure principles, materials, knots and key techniques—plus decision points for predictable healing 1.5h CPD
Part of the Dawood & Tanner Study Clubs 2026 programme — view all dates and book here:
https://www.eventbrite.com/cc/dawood-and-tanner-study-clubs-2026-4816877
An interactive evening session for GDPs on the suturing principles that drive predictable soft tissue closure and post-operative healing. We’ll cover the fundamentals we often assume we “know”, but that can be hard to execute consistently under real clinical conditions.
The session gives GDPs a practical framework for choosing sutures and needles, securing knots, selecting techniques, and achieving tension-free closure in everyday cases — including extractions, minor oral surgery, periodontal procedures and implant-related soft tissue management.
This is a discussion-based Study Club session with demonstration and technique walkthroughs (no hands-on suturing). Delegates will leave with clear decision points and practical takeaways to improve consistency and outcomes.
Verifiable CPD: 1.5 hours (certificate provided)
Key takeaways
- Suturing fundamentals for predictable healing (what really matters)
- Tension control and tissue handling: avoiding dehiscence
- Suture/needle selection: practical choices for common GDP cases
- Knot security + technique selection: what to do and what to avoid
- Post-op care and complications: removal timing, patient advice and red flags
Who should attend
- GDPs who carry out extractions, periodontal procedures, biopsies or implant-related surgery and want more predictable closure
- Clinicians who feel they “know the basics” but want clearer technique selection and fewer healing complications
- Referrers wanting a practical framework for soft tissue management and post-op care
Format
Interactive clinical session + technique walkthroughs + Q&A, plus networking
Further development
For clinicians who would like hands-on suturing practice and feedback, Fiona also runs an extended practical course. Details can be shared after the event.
