Symposium on Setbacks (SOS) in Science

Par UCL Department of Imaging Neuroscience
[HYBRID] Department of Imaging Neuroscience, 4th floor seminar roomLondon, England
15 mai à 10 h 00 UTC+1
Aperçu

Let's talk about reckoning with setbacks and failure as a normal part of science, and contribute to a positive research culture!

This hybrid symposium will take place in-person at the Department of Imaging Neuroscience (12 Queen Square) and can also be followed online on MS Teams.

In a series of talks and discussions, we will address the disappointments that are entirely common in research, but that we all hesitate to talk about. Even the most successful researchers do not always succeed, so if we only focus on victories, we forego golden opportunities to learn from errors. As important, we reinforce biased impressions of others as being much more capable than ourselves. So, let's talk about reckoning with setbacks as a normal part of science, and contribute to a positive research culture!

The event will feature keynote talks by Professor Dorothy Bishop and Professor Sophie Scott. There will also be plenary sessions on facing rejection and on dealing with null results.

A buffet-style lunch will be provided, with thanks to a grant from UCL Research Culture. The symposium is part of the IoN's event series for Mental Health Awareness Week (12-18 May 2025). Participation is free, but registration via this page is required.
