Free informal workshop for all women and girls: 13+ (with guardians for 13-15 yrs)

Zoë will give a brief overview of the different parts of a synthesiser: oscillators, noise generators, filters, attenuators; and then show how to make some simple example patches using these building blocks to make some sounds. Participants will get to make their own similar patches, and hopefully be empowered enough to explore further later on. Experimentation is encouraged.

We are delighted to confirm that Audulus are sponsoring this event (£20 per person), by donating a free licences of Audulus participants. You'll need to bring a laptop or ipad. I'm afraid that we can't provide computers or ipads with the software on for this workshop so please consider this when you book your place.

Zoë is kindly including a brief introduction to the women who pioneered electronic music, with emphasis on how this is about experimenting, that there are no "wrong answers". She will be showing what each synth part does and then wire up an example patch or two, for you to follow along, changing the settings of your patch to taste. She will share info on further resources for those interested in learning more.

Zoë Blade Has been making music since she was 16. She loves using things in ways they are not intended to be used, working with modular synths, DAWs, tracks and various homebuilt hardwares and softwares. Despite this experimental element to her work she prefers to create music that has an emotional resonance with the listener. She has had work played on MTV when she was a teenager, and scored several documentaries and her music is featured in various soundtracks.
