Join us for our June TA Workshop: Understanding Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) – Identification and Practical Classroom Strategies, a focused and empowering session designed to help TAs, LSAs and HLTAs confidently recognise and support pupils with DLD.
Led by Twinkl’s Speech and Language Therapy Educational Content Lead, Ella McKenzie, this session will break down what DLD actually is, how it presents in the classroom and the practical strategies that make the biggest difference to learning and participation.
In this TA Workshop, you’ll learn how to:
- understand what Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) is;
- spot the common signs of DLD in primary and secondary settings;
- recognise how DLD can impact areas such as following instructions, behaviour, literacy and memory;
- adapt your language and instructions to reduce cognitive load;
- use practical, evidence-informed strategies to support vocabulary, comprehension and expressive language.
This session is ideal for teaching assistants, LSAs and HLTAs who want to feel more confident identifying possible language needs and making small, high-impact adjustments that improve classroom access and outcomes for pupils with DLD.
