Event description

Description

Combining lived experience, research, policy and practice.

People facing multiple disadvantage have been pushed to the extreme margins of UK society. The links between problems like homelessness, substance misuse, mental ill health, violence, contact with the criminal justice system, domestic abuse and extreme poverty often go unrecognised by services and systems mostly designed to deal with one issue at a time.

Two years ago, the first National Summit brought together a vibrant network of people with lived experience, service providers, commissioners and policy makers, each with different skills and expertise and all committed to achieving change.

On the 8 and 9 May 2017 we will gather again in Milton Keynes, this time also inviting researchers to join the mix. Working together we will assess progress, inspire and challenge each other, and discuss the next steps in tackling multiple disadvantage.

This isn’t a standard conference. Over two days a series of workshops will be led and shaped by delegates under 4 key themes. On the final afternoon we will explore what this means for how we move forward together.

Event programme

View the programme for the 2nd day: 9 May

We have invited registered delegates who would like to run a workshop, or present a paper to propose one to help shape the event programme. We were particularly looking for workshops that are delivered in partnership to help draw links, cross boundaries and demonstrate collaborations between individuals with lived experience, researchers, commissioners, practitioners and policy makers. Each one will fall under one of these broad themes:

  • Drawing expertise from lived experience
  • Achieving systems change
  • Understanding and responding to diversity
  • Fostering partnership and collaborations to achieve change

Event places

We would encouarge as many of you as possible to book places for people with lived experience of disadvantage. For smaller organisations that are unable to afford paying for a place, there are a limited number of bursary places available. Please register your interest if you would like to apply, and we will be in touch to discuss your requirements.
