Overview

Uncover the untold history of Emily Cowper, one of 19th century England’s most colourful socialites and the second wife of Lord Palmerston.

Join authors Jehanne and Katie Wake as they explore Emily Cowper’s life and legacy using personal letters and journals to showcase her glamorous and political life for the first time. Together they will share how Emily used her political genius to guide her husband and brothers' premierships, whilst reflecting on the way women have often been confined to the fringes of our historical memory.

About Jehanne and Katie Wake

Jehanne Wake and her daughter Katie Wake are a London-based writing duo. Jehanne is a biographer and historian whose acclaimed works include Princess Louise, Queen Victoria's Unconventional Daughter and Sisters of Fortune. Before becoming an author she worked in investment banking, and she has contributed to BBC programmes and major biographical dictionaries. Katie is a partner and board director at Flint Global and previously worked as a journalist and senior government adviser in Whitehall. She holds degrees from Bristol and Oxford, and this collaboration marks her debut as an author. Together, they bring rich historical expertise and contemporary political insight to their work.
