Spanning from Trafalgar Square to Temple Bar, this street has witnessed the city's transformation over centuries. The authors reveal how the Strand evolved from religious and aristocratic influence to becoming a center for commerce, media, and law. By 1910, it was known as the 'center of the world.' Through archival discoveries, Browell and Chanin offer the most detailed and compelling account of the Strand's history, showcasing untold stories and the street's central role in shaping London’s identity."

GEOFF BROWELL is Heritage Lead in King’s Libraries and Collections at King's College, London. He leads historical tours of King’s and is the editor of Strandlines, a digital community dedicated to exploring lives on the Strand.
EILEEN CHANIN is a Sydney-based historian and research associate of Australian National University. She is the author of nine books, including Capital Designs: Australia House and Visions of an Imperial London (2020).
