Join our Talking Textiles: Kente online lunchtime talk with artist Lorelle Aboagye, Kente specialist, lecturer, Curator and Art Historian, Dr Malika Kraamer and scientist Dr Margarita Gleba.•	Hear Lorelle Aboagye speak about her work. •	Find out about the history behind Kente and explore West African textiles in Wisbech &amp; Fenland Museum’s collection with Dr Kraamer and Dr Gleba.•	Bring your own textiles for identification and share your textiles stories.Please note this session will be recorded.This session will be hosted by Ariadne Henry of Cambridge City Council for Cambridge Black History Month and Cambridge Black Heritage in 2021 and Sarah Coleman of Wisbech &amp; Fenland Museum.This event is part of a programme of events and community engagement developed by Articles for Change project funded by the Museums Association Esmée Fairbairn Collections Fund and New Conversations, funded by the Museums Association Esmée Fairbairn Sustaining Engagement with Collections Fund.

Lorelle Aboagye is a Textile Designer, Maker, and Visual Storyteller based in London. She holds a BA in Illustration and a MA in Textile Design. Lorelle's recent hand-crafted wovens draw influence from material culture, social history, and the indigenous crafts of Ghana. Natural fibers such as silk and cotton are a staple feature within her work and reflect significant Anglo-Ashanti trade relations and colonial history. They are developed in an organic, spiritual-led manner with a focus on sustainability and experimentation.

Margarita Gleba is Assistant Professor at the Department of Cultural Heritage, University of Padua. She was previously European Research Council Principal Research Associate at the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research, University of Cambridge, UK, where she was leading the project PROCON . She was also a research project manager at the Centre for Textile Research, University of Copenhagen, Denmark, and Marie Curie Fellow at the University College London, UK. She specialises in textile archaeology, including scientific analytical methods of fibre and textile investigation.

Malika Kraamer is a Lecturer and Art Historian and is currently the Curator of the African collection at MARKK in Hamburg, Germany. Malika specialises in Art in and from Africa, Global Fashion and Textile Trade. Malika's research focus concentrates on African and South Asian art and fashion. She is in particular interested in transnational textiles and dress fashions with routes or roots in Africa and/or Asia. She looks at historical and contemporary globalized textile journeys between these two continents.Malika obtained her PhD in Ghanaian textiles at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London in 2005 and has taught and worked at several universities and museums in Britain and the Netherlands.Malika previously worked for 11 years as Curator of World Cultures at Leicester Arts and Museum Service (2007-2019) and has published many articles on the significance, politics and history of Kente in Ghana, on the social and design developments of Ewe weaving.
