Taster Pottery Workshop - Wheel Throwing
Adult creative pottery workshop every Saturday at Liberation Art Gallery, hosted by our resident ceramic artist in central Brighton.
Curious about pottery wheel throwing? This wheel-throwing pottery taster session at Liberation Art Gallery offers a hands-on introduction to the fundamentals of working on the wheel in a relaxed and supportive studio environment.
Designed for beginners, this session focuses on experiencing the process of wheel throwing. With guidance from a skilled instructor, participants will learn basic techniques such as centring clay, shaping simple forms, and understanding how clay responds on the wheel.
This 45-minute workshop is ideal for those who want to try pottery for the first time or are considering enrolling in a longer course.

- Introduction to the pottery wheel and tools
- Hands-on wheel throwing practice
- One-to-one guidance in a small group setting
- Limited to 4 participants per workshop, this enables 1-2-1 tuition, guidance and confidence building on the wheel
✨ Session timings:
- 1-hour taster session
✨ Who it’s for:
- Beginners and first-time wheel throwers
- No prior pottery experience required
Our Approach
Sessions are led by our resident artists, trained to degree level in their specialism, all experienced in wellbeing-led creative practice, creating a calm, supportive and inspiring environment where everyone can feel safe, confident and creatively free.
This workshop is the perfect way for you to immerse yourself in clay, enjoy the process of making, and create with guidance in a friendly, professional environment.
All materials are provided, just bring yourself and an old t-shirt to dive into this hands-on experience! No prior experience required. At Liberation Art Gallery CIC, we aim to create an inclusive and relaxing environment for all our workshop participants. Feel free to bring your own refreshments, and we are BYOB friendly to enjoy during your session, making your experience even more comfortable and sociable. Our gallery also provides toilet and handwashing facilities, ensuring convenience and ease throughout your visit. With all workshop materials and tools provided, this setup allows you to fully enjoy your creative experience without worrying about additional costs, so you can focus entirely on making art and having fun.
Parent/child policy:
This workshop is for adults aged +16 years and above. You can choose to book our Children's Pottery Workshop through Eventbrite, which has the option to add wheel throwing into your experience.
Firing
You can either choose to fire your pottery (just £5 per person) or take away your pottery. If you choose to fire, this enables you to return and glaze your ceramics. Firing typically takes 4-6 weeks. You must collect fired pieces within 60 days, as we cannot guarantee your piece will be in the gallery space due to our storage capacity.

Cancellation Policy:
We understand that plans can change, and we do our best to be fair whilst protecting the sustainability of our workshops.
- Cancellations or date changes must be made at least 48 hours before the scheduled workshops
- Cancellations made within 48 hours of the workshop or non-attendance on the day are non-refundable
- As a goodwill gesture, we are happy to offer a transfer to a future workshop of equal value, subject to availability, when at least 48 hours' notice is given
- Workshop credits must be used within 3 months of the original workshop date and cannot be exchanged for cash
- We are unable to offer refunds or workshop transfers for same-day cancellations. As materials, artist fees and staffing are already committed.
- In rare and exceptional circumstances, please contact us directly. Any discretion offered is at the Liberation Art gallery's discretion.
