Professional Learning - Moray House

Citizen journalists, social media platforms and digital algorithms have shifted the information landscape and contributed to the spread misinformation and propaganda. What can educators, librarians, and information specialists do to help their communities recognise and respond to misleading information?
Join visiting teacher librarian Shana Ferguson for an interactive exploration of practical tools and approaches educators can use to improve information literacy. Shana will share curricular resources and activities that can be used across subject areas. We will discuss how pupils interpret the information they find on various digital media sources, and how we can empower pupils to develop stronger media literacy and critical thinking skills.
Shana is a visiting teacher from the United States who is working on a social media curriculum project funded by the US-UK Fulbright Commission. Her project is hosted by the University of Edinburgh's Centre for Research in Digital Education under the guidance of Professor Judy Robertson.
This is a free professional learning event geared towards supporting secondary teachers and educational librarians, as well as Moray House students and staff. Please register in advance so that we can plan accordingly.
