Teaching Mandarin Grammar

The IOE Confucius Institute for Schools (IOE CI) supports schools in starting and developing the teaching and learning of Mandarin Chinese and the study of China across other areas of the curriculum. The IOE CI is a bilateral project with Peking University and Peking University High School and supported by the Office of Chinese Language Council International, Hanban.

Morning Session: 10.30am - 12.30pm (optional)
Afternoon Session: 1.30pm - 4pm
This grammar training builds on training delivered in 2016 and 2015. The optional morning session (10.30am - 12.30pm) with Philippa will use non-textbook materials to look at how we can introduce grammar through reading and listening tasks, to develop student engagement with the language targeted. The afternoon session (1.30 - 4pm) with Katharine Carruthers will take a deeper look at ways in which we as teachers can explore inductive and deductive approaches to grammar teaching, and consider which approach can be more appropriate in different contexts. 
We have designed this training to be flexible, so you can choose attendance for either the afternoon or the whole day. Please indicate when booking whether you will be adding both the morning AND afternoon sessions, or only the afternoon session.
(Please not that due to the morning session being optional, lunch will not be provided on the day. We ask that participants either bring lunch with them or get their lunch during the hour break from 12.30 - 1.30pm)
Suitable for: Current secondary school teachers of Mandarin (native and non-native speakers) ☑ Mandarin teachers ☑ Native or proficient Mandarin speakers ☑ Secondary school/college level
This course is not suitable for: ✘ Beginner Mandarin speakers ✘ Intermediate Mandarin speakers
