Overview

An afternoon of basic teaching tips for archivists, librarians & other info workers, backed up by a short (PDF) book.

An afternoon of teaching tips for archivists, librarians, and other information professionals. Are you fairly new to teaching, never done a formal teaching qualification, or just want to brush up your skills?

We'll cover a range of basic teaching tips for information professionals including:

  1. Setting aims / objectives
  2. Lesson Planning
  3. Quick intro to learning theories
  4. Quick intro to some pedagogical approaches (active learning, playful learning, object based learning, and more)
  5. Differences between large and small group teaching
  6. Accessibility tips
  7. Evaluating sessions
  8. Some common neuromyths
  9. Reflections
  10. ...and more

There will be a lot to cover, meaning that much of it will be in brief, but all attendees will get a PDF version of a short book covering the above material, an adapted and (2026) updated version of "The mini book of Teaching Tips for Librarians", creating a new "mini book of teaching tips for information workers".

The session will be run on the Zoom platform with Padlet used for activities.

We'll ask for questions and topics to cover in advance and try to make sure these are addressed in the session.

The session will be recorded and shared only with those booked on the session. If you book, please don't share the recording more widely afterwards.
